Moving to Cincinnati? Here’s What You Need to Know from 20+ Years of Helping Families Relocate

July 6, 2025

Why People Move to Cincinnati

Cincinnati gives you big-city opportunity with a small-town feel. It’s a place where historic architecture meets modern development, and where world-class companies sit alongside family-owned businesses. Some of the biggest reasons my customers have moved here include:

Affordable cost of living: Compared to coastal cities, Cincinnati offers spacious homes and quality apartments at a fraction of the price, leaving more of your budget for enjoying life.

Diverse job market: From Fortune 500 giants to innovative startups, Cincinnati’s economic landscape continues to grow.

Strong sense of community: Neighbors know each other, local schools are a source of pride, and community festivals bring everyone together.

Easy access to both urban and outdoor life: Parks, trails, and the Ohio River are just minutes from downtown.

The Best Neighborhoods in and Around Cincinnati

Over the years, I’ve moved families into nearly every Cincinnati neighborhood and suburb. Here are a few local favorites — each with its own personality:

Hyde Park

Just northeast of downtown, Hyde Park is one of Cincinnati’s most sought-after areas. Centered around Hyde Park Square, you’ll find boutique shops, coffee houses, and seasonal farmers markets. The streets are lined with beautiful early 20th-century homes and mature trees. It’s highly walkable and popular with young professionals and families alike.

Anderson Township

Located to the east along the Little Miami River, Anderson Township offers rolling hills, top-rated schools (Forest Hills Local School District), and plenty of green space. It’s perfect for families who want a bit more land and quiet while still being just 20 minutes from downtown.

Blue Ash

Blue Ash is both a residential community and a booming business center, home to dozens of corporate headquarters and tech hubs. It has award-winning Sycamore Community Schools, expansive parks, a popular rec center, and events like the Blue Ash Taste of Ohio. It’s an excellent blend of work and play.

🏘

Montgomery

Montgomery is charming, historic, and full of character. You’ll find beautifully maintained brick homes, highly rated restaurants, and Sycamore Community Schools, which consistently rank among the best in Ohio. It has a small-town feel with upscale touches.

Loveland & Maineville

Farther north, Loveland and Maineville appeal to families looking for newer subdivisions, excellent youth sports leagues, and easy access to the Loveland Bike Trail. Loveland’s historic downtown along the river is a weekend favorite for locals.

Excellent Schools for Every Age

K-12 Schools

Cincinnati and its suburbs offer a mix of exceptional public and private schools. Some of the most recognized include:

  • Indian Hill Exempted Village School District: Regularly ranked as one of Ohio’s top-performing districts, with small class sizes and strong arts and athletics.
  • Sycamore Community Schools (serving Montgomery & Blue Ash): Known for academic rigor, STEM opportunities, and national recognition.
  • Forest Hills School District (serving Anderson Township): Offers advanced placement, robust extracurriculars, and consistently earns high marks from the Ohio Department of Education.
  • Loveland City Schools: A top choice for families in the northern suburbs, with a supportive community and modern facilities.

Private school options abound too, from St. Xavier High School, one of the largest Jesuit schools in the U.S., to Seven Hills School, a nationally recognized independent college-prep school.

Colleges & Universities

Moving here means being close to some of Ohio’s most respected higher education institutions:

  • University of Cincinnati (UC): A major public research university right in the heart of the city, with standout programs in engineering, business, architecture, and its top-ranked College-Conservatory of Music.
  • Xavier University: A private Jesuit school in Norwood known for its business, health sciences, and liberal arts programs. It also has a vibrant basketball tradition that unites the city.
  • Mount St. Joseph University: Located on the city’s west side, “The Mount” offers strong programs in nursing, education, and social work, plus a tight-knit campus community.
  • Nearby, Miami University in Oxford is about 45 minutes away and frequently makes national lists for best undergraduate teaching.

Great Places to Work in the Cincinnati Region

Many of our customers move here for career opportunities. The area is home to:

Procter & Gamble (P&G): A global consumer goods leader headquartered downtown.

Kroger: Another Cincinnati-based giant, the nation’s largest grocery retailer.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital & UC Health: Both rank among the best in healthcare and biomedical research.

Fifth Third Bank: One of the country’s largest regional banks, offering extensive career paths.

GE Aerospace in Evendale: A major hub for aviation engine design and manufacturing.

Plus countless small businesses and startups, with Cincinnati recently named one of the top emerging tech cities in the Midwest.

Things to Do in and Around Cincinnati

When you’re not unpacking boxes, Cincinnati gives you plenty to explore:

  •  Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden: One of the oldest and most respected zoos in the world.
  •  Sports: Cheer on the Reds at Great American Ball Park or the Bengals at Paycor Stadium. Soccer fans have FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium.
  •  Local breweries: Cincinnati has a rich brewing heritage, now revitalized by dozens of craft breweries in neighborhoods like Over-the-Rhine.
  •  Arts & culture: See Broadway shows at the Aronoff Center, explore modern works at the Contemporary Arts Center, or enjoy the symphony at Music Hall.
  •  Outdoors: Bike or jog along the Loveland Trail, hike in Mt. Airy Forest, or take the family to Smale Riverfront Park along the Ohio River.

Moving Here? Advice from 20+ Years on the Job

  • Start planning early. Top dates, especially in summer, fill up fast.
  • Visit neighborhoods yourself. A street can look very different in person than online.
  • Ask about local quirks. Cincinnati’s hilly streets and older homes mean professional movers who know how to navigate tight staircases and historic districts make a difference.
  • Hire licensed, insured pros. It’s your life in those boxes — don’t trust it to just anyone.
